Specialist Independent Assessments for BPD

Postby loving Mama on Mon Feb 23, 2009 10:37 pm

I am aware of details of both a specialist consultant psychiatrist and psychologist who would both be willing to complete independent assessments for court. Both also specialise in Borderline Personality Disorder (aka Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder: Borderline Type or Complex PTSD).

Dr Chris Holman is the specialist Psychiatrist, and has a fromidable reptutation. Dr Holman is based at the The Retreat Hospital in York. The Psychologist is based at The Tuke Centre, York (this is the out-patient counselling and psychotherapy unit attached to The Retreat).

I have spoken with the Tuke Centre Manager, Chris Powell who confirmed the above information, and also stated the assessments are £250 in addition to an hourly rate for the report to be written, which usually takes about 2 hours.

I can confirm both The Retreat and The Tuke Centre are the best and most highly reputable in Yokshire. I have been a client of The Tuke Centre for over a year and would highly recommend them and/or The Retreat.

Please note The Retreat have an in-patient DBT (Dialetical Behavioural Therapy) based programme for those with BPD, called The Acorn Programme, in addition to other therapeutic interventions, and The Tuke Centre also facilitate and out-patient DBT programme. DBT is now written in the NICE Gudelines as the recommended treatment for BPD. Specialist funding is available for treatment/therapy via the PCT Commisioners. A strong case needs to be stated, and having a child/children in the care of the local authority is considered a mitigating factor in such an application. The Retreat Hospital accept patients from outside the PCT.

Also on the BPD forum there was an expert. He teaches students but is an expert in PD's. He despises the court system and think the bpd diagnosis is wrongly used.

This was a few years ago. You have to go to bpd.uk to get more details. Also therapy is very good for the anger issues in this disorder and stabilising emotions.
