INDEPENDENT SOCIAL WORKERS

Postby Freebird230773 on Tue May 20, 2008 10:06 pm

Hi

Can any one recommend a decent independent social worker who has half a brain to be able to assess a partially sighted person properly. I have got the names of a few but most of them don't deal with people with visual impairment. I am trying to get an independent assessment because the one I got from the SS is so full of contentious drivel that it is beyond belief! I phoned an agency of ISW's yesterday and there isn't any experienced in this. They did however tell me to print the info on the ISW's off and take it to my sol tomorrow which I will do.

We had to get the children's solicitor to instruct an independent social worker - how come you have a choice in who you get?

I know who I wouldn't have - but I'm not naming names on here.

She is saying she has to give the names to her sol who will then instruct one.

Some of them seem as bad as the ones at SS from what people have said.

FA, I am guessing you weren't told you had a choice. All parties have to agree on the 'expert'.In a joint instruction what they are agreeing to is the terms of the assessment and acceptance of the opinion. I t is usually arranged through the children's solicitor but that is for amdmin purposes.

I have heard that a lady called Jan Bennett is a very good ISW, but am unsure how to contact her nor get a copy of her CV. If I can get the details of her tomorrow I will post them, but you could ask your own sol if they have heard of this lady.

Loving Mama,

As ISWs must also be registered with GSCC, I looked up Jan Bennett and came up with a Janette Valerie Bennett in Doncaster (sounds right for your area). Her registration number is E/1074983 but the register does not say if she is independent or not. You could be sneaky and try ringing Doncaster SS and asking for her - if she works for them they'll put you through!!!

Similarly, I found Angela Mary Burley registered in Woverhampton, number E/1047650.

Don't know if this helps at all?

Daveyone, these guys are in a different situation from yours because they have the SS taking their children whereas you were in a dispute with your previous partner. They may need (now or in the future) an assessment by an independent SW and are trying to find out if there is anyone that can be trusted amongst the orchard full of rotten apples.

By the way, welcome to this forum - I'm not a moderator on here so can't give you your own thread like I did elsewhere!!!!!

Who is investigating the sol and for what reason? Is it anything to do with the SRA or Law Society?

Thanks KIT, that information is very helpful.
