Early Day Motion
EDM 1239

CONTACTPOINT DATABASE
31.03.2009

Brooke, Annette

Quote:
That this House notes the announcement of another delay to the implementation of ContactPoint because of further concerns about the accuracy and security of the database; expresses concern over the safety implications of such a vast database containing potentially sensitive information in the light of security breaches in various Government departments; further expresses concern over the Joseph Rowntree Foundation's recent report stating that the database is almost certainly illegal underhuman rights and data protection law; further notes continued concerns over the projected cost of ContactPoint; further notes the conclusion of the House of Lords Select Committee on the Merits of Statutory Instruments that the Government has not conclusively demonstrated that a universal database is a proportionate response to the problem being addressed; and therefore calls on the Government to scrap the database.

~~

Please can you all email your MP's and ask them to sign this Early Day Motion to scrap ContactPoint.

With thanks to NO2ID

You can't. The Children Act 2004 specifically says that the information sharing it enables overrides any rule of common or statute law to the contrary. Data protection does not apply, confidentiality does not apply, Article 8 "privacy" rights under the Human Rights Act do not apply, nor does any limitation in the powers under which the information is obtained in the first place.

The 'shielding' about which there has been so much fuss is a privilege in the gift of the local authority, not a right.

Labour don't want to listen. They've been told contact point will be illegal..., but they don't care.

Europe says the DNA database is illegal - but they don't care.

Well bring on the election.

We never voted for a police state.

so....is it worth contacting the MP's and let them oppose the Contact point?

There is an EDM number and if the MP's discover that they are forced to be powerless, they might cause something to happen to allow them to keep their powers.

Yes, if everyone could ask their MP to sign the EDM to stop Contact Point that's an excellent start.

Contact Point overrules Europe, overrules Human Rights, Statutory law the whole lot. In which case, it's probably totally illegal. As even soldiers in battle have human rights, so our children should too.

Labour won't listen - It's one of the most totalitarian governments we have ever had.

Totalitarian is the right word!

Fascist is prehaps apt too.

Also google for the big opt out - on our NHS spine.
They're selling our medical data.
They say its anonymous but that includes your dob and your postcode. So not rocket science to work out.

I'm utterly appalled.

If you want to see the regular work of Ross Anderson - Professor of Cambridge University on how "ILLEGAL" the NHS database is, google for NO2ID forum. I've been dipping in for months now. And I'm appalled. I cant find words for it. There'll be riots on the streets if they get these systems live.

They're creating a country that no one will want to live in. A Police State.

Go have a look, you'll love it, as it's "uber accurate".
